A few days ago I received an email from the author of The History of American Graffiti, Robert Gastman about his new documentary titled, Wall Writers: Graffiti In It’s Innocence. For this new project, Robert sought to discover the true genesis of graffiti through the writers who started it. By interviewing over 20 of the most prolific and recognizable taggers from graffiti’s roots, Robert seems to have delivered an incredibly comprehensive and finished product that will help to clarify an era. While Robert has nearly completed his documentary, he is struggling to come up with the sufficient funds to cover post-production. In order to have his work see daylight, Robert has created a Kickstarter Page in which his project is detailed and pledge rewards are given.
This project couldn’t have been timed better given all of the publicity aged writers have been given in the past couple days. Articles from news agencies such as the Washington Post have highlighted a few of the middle-aged pioneers who helped to forge the graff culture and are still putting in work on the streets.
If you have any interest in the history of graffiti/graffiti culture, please pledge to the creation of this documentary!
